Student Employment Opportunities

Each year a cohort of UNC Asheville students works on various projects central to the mission of the Center for Diversity Education. These paid positions can also be counted toward academic internship credits. The Center's student employees not only receive valuable work experience, but also networking opportunities with local community organizations, and bi-weekly professional development lunch trainings. 

Disability is Diversity Educator

The Disability is Diversity Educator position was created out of a collaboration with UNCA's Office of Academic Accessibility and Disability Cultural Center. This Educator contributes to the implementaion and development of disability and diversity education for on-campus organizations and clubs, including offering the Disability Language, Attitudes, and Justice three-part workshop for campus and community groups.

Equity and Inclusion Educator

The Equity and Inclusion Educator coordinates campus and community events that promote equity and inclusion. These events include diversity trainings such as The Center for Diversity Education’s white privilege workshop, an annual YWCA “Stand Against Racism” event, MLK Day event, campus speakers, etc. This position also involves maintaining the Color of Asheville Black-Owned Business Directory and possibly other administrative tasks as needed.

Everybody's Environment Liaison

The Everybody’s Environment Liaison is responsible for working with Everybody’s Environment Action Group, a coalition of local organizations dedicated to building an inclusive environmental movement. The liaison will maintain involvement with the group, plan and manage environmental awareness events on and off campus, and assist with database management and other administrative needs. The position involves maintaining relationships with organizations like Asheville Green Works, Asheville Sierra Club, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Green Opportunities, Conservation Trust for North Carolina, Dogwood Alliance, Mountain People's Assembly, Riverlink, and Southern Appalachians Highlands Conservancy.

Exhibits and Global Education Coordinator

The Exhibits and Education Coordinator is responsible for K-12 education programs, which include managing holiday Road Shows, coordinating traveling educational exhibits, and occasional curriculum development activities. This position also involves managing databases of local educators and community organizations for outreach activities.

Peace Studies Educator

The Peace Studies Educator is responsible for implementation of programs associated with Holocaust and Genocide 6th-12th grade education. This includes coordinating loan materials, exhibits, books, and digital exhibits for local Holocaust educators, assisting with events on and off campus, and coordinating the Yom HaShoah Holocaust Day of Remembrance ceremony on the quad.

Video and Visual Media Coordinator

The Video and Visual Media Coordinator is responsible for creating video and photographic media for the Center. This includes the multi-year project of editing video interviews with local Holocaust survivors into short videos that can be used by K-12 educators as part of their curriculum.
